Re: 安省AccessOAP 的DON会议如何尽量覆盖10大领域的方方面面的短板?
1. Communication:
Preparing for the determination of needs interview for a child with autism is crucial to ensure that the necessary support and resources are provided. To prepare for the interview, focus on the following domains related to the child's communication skills and needs:
Verbal communication: Assess your child's ability to express thoughts, feelings, and ideas through spoken language. Consider their vocabulary, sentence structure, and the clarity of their speech. Think about any challenges they may face in verbal communication and any improvements made recently.
Non-verbal communication: Observe your child's non-verbal communication skills, such as eye contact, facial expressions, gestures, and body language. Consider how well they can understand and interpret these cues from others, and if they can use them effectively to convey their own thoughts and feelings.
Social communication: Evaluate your child's ability to engage in conversations, take turns speaking, and respond appropriately to social cues. Reflect on any difficulties they may have in initiating or maintaining conversations and whether they are able to adapt their communication style based on the social context.
Emotional regulation: Consider your child's ability to recognize and manage their own emotions and to understand the emotions of others. Think about any challenges they may have with self-regulation and their capacity to empathize with others.
Pragmatic language: Assess your child's ability to use language in context, including understanding idiomatic expressions, sarcasm, and humor. Reflect on any difficulties they may have in interpreting the meaning behind words and phrases.
Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC): If your child uses any AAC tools or systems, such as sign language, picture exchange communication systems (PECS), or speech-generating devices, consider how effectively they use these tools and any additional support they may need.
Listening and understanding: Assess your child's ability to listen and comprehend spoken language. Consider their ability to follow instructions, understand stories, and interpret information.
To prepare for the interview, gather any relevant reports or assessments related to your child's communication abilities, such as speech therapy evaluations or Individualized Education Program (IEP) documents. Reflect on specific examples of your child's strengths and challenges in each domain, and consider any recent changes or improvements. This information will help you provide a comprehensive picture of your child's communication needs during the interview, ensuring they receive the appropriate support and resources.

how to prepare Activities of daily living: How individuals complete daily tasks, such as getting dressed and eating
Preparing for the determination of needs interview regarding your child's activities of daily living (ADLs) is important to ensure they receive the necessary support for their daily functioning. To prepare, consider the following aspects of their ADLs:
Personal hygiene: Assess your child's ability to complete personal hygiene tasks, such as brushing teeth, bathing, washing hands, and grooming. Reflect on any challenges they may face and the level of assistance they require.
Dressing: Evaluate your child's ability to dress and undress independently, including selecting appropriate clothing, managing fasteners (buttons, zippers), and putting on shoes. Consider any challenges they may face and the level of support they need.
Eating: Observe your child's ability to feed themselves independently, using utensils, and managing age-appropriate food items. Consider any challenges they may have related to mealtime routines, food preferences, or sensory sensitivities.
Toileting: Assess your child's ability to independently use the toilet, including recognizing the need to use the bathroom, managing clothing, and maintaining personal hygiene. Reflect on any challenges they may face and the level of assistance required.
Sleep routines: Consider your child's ability to follow a consistent sleep routine, including winding down, falling asleep, and staying asleep through the night. Reflect on any sleep-related challenges and the level of support they need.
Household chores: Evaluate your child's ability to participate in age-appropriate household chores, such as making their bed, tidying their room, or helping with simple tasks in the kitchen. Consider any challenges they may face and the level of assistance required.
Safety awareness: Assess your child's understanding of and ability to follow safety rules and precautions at home, in the community, and online. Reflect on any challenges they may face in recognizing potentially dangerous situations and the level of support they need.
To prepare for the interview, gather any relevant information or documentation related to your child's ADLs, such as therapy reports, teacher feedback, or IEP documents. Reflect on specific examples of your child's strengths and challenges in each area, and consider any recent changes or improvements.
By focusing on these aspects of your child's ADLs and preparing relevant examples and documentation, you will be better equipped to provide a comprehensive picture of your child's needs during the determination of needs interview. This will help ensure they receive the appropriate support and resources to develop and maintain their independence in daily living activities.
